The Gaming Industry

What would we say if we could say anything about the gaming industry? Look how much it’s grown.

There was a time long ago when some people believed that the games industry would be a passing fad and fade into obscurity. They turned out to be incredibly wrong, as consumers spent $108.9 billion in the games industry in 2017. This represents an increase of $7.8 billion, or 7.8%, from the year before. Analysts estimate the market size at $138 billion U.S. Dollars in 2018.

The video games market could become a $300 billion industry by 2025, with the growth of mobile gaming and innovative offerings, like cloud gaming, according to a new report from GlobalData.

The video gaming industry has, since about 2014, (in terms of revenue) been more profitable than both Music, and Films, combined. Research by NewZoo projects ~30% growth in PC and console games over the next 9 years.

Even as the cost of producing video games has increased, the average price of a standard AAA game release is $60, unchanged for nearly 15 years. When adjusted for inflation, consumers are paying less for blockbuster titles than ever before.
