Design as you go
Commonly known as the play as you go method.
Make the game you want to play

Most independent developers will subscribe to this methodology, being that they enjoy playing games, and the idea being by playing the games they create, they will inevitably create a game that is fun to play. This is almost rarely ever the case. It does not work as most independent developers would imagine, because it turns out the needs of a single game or, are not the same needs of a successful independent game title.
